Teaching Assistant - Primary School

About the role

A primary school in Stone, Buckinghamshire, is looking for a Teaching Assistant to support children in class, working with small groups or individuals, including some with special educational needs. The post is part-time, Monday to Friday, 12:00 to 3:15 pm, with hours negotiable, and is advertised as fixed term.

Key responsibilities

• Work under the direction of the class teacher to support pupils' access to learning, one-to-one, in small groups or as a whole-class assistant.
• Support pupils with learning needs, behaviour difficulties or disabilities, and disadvantaged pupils and those with English as an additional language.
• Help pupils understand instructions, act independently where appropriate and promote inclusion.
• Supervise pupils, ensure their safety and play safe, and supervise the playground.
• Prepare the classroom for lessons, prepare and display pupils' work, and keep pupil records as requested.
• Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour and provide clerical/admin support such as photocopying, typing and filing.
• Attend to pupils' personal needs and implement personal programmes covering social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters, including intimate care such as changing nappies and helping pupils use the toilet.

Required profile

• Good level of literacy and maths.
• Experience supporting young people in an educational setting; experience with pupils with special educational needs is an advantage.
• Enthusiasm for children, patience, understanding and good communication skills.
• Commitment to raising attainment and progress, and to an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
• Flexibility, creativity and teamwork.

What we offer

• Salary of £24,836 to £25,823 pro rata 39 weeks per year, depending on experience (Bucks Pay Range 1b).
• Fixed-term, part-time position with a closing date of 2 November 2026.
