Technical Manager – Solar (Sussex, Kent & Surrey)

About the role

This is a hands‑on technical manager position for a fast‑growing renewable‑energy business. You will lead site surveys, plan residential solar PV, battery storage, backup power and EV‑charging installations and ensure every project is safe, compliant and commercially sound before any panel is fitted.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct detailed site surveys across Sussex, Kent and Surrey, assessing roof suitability, access, cable routes, inverter and battery locations, shading, orientation, communications and Wi‑Fi.
• Validate sales proposals, compare quotations with on‑site realities, identify variations and confirm technical readiness for installation.
• Provide accurate technical information to sales, procurement, finance and the Installation Manager.
• Maintain compliance with BS 7671, DNO requirements, structural and wind‑load considerations, and MCS standards.

Required profile

• Electrically qualified solar PV professional with strong domestic installation experience.
• Hold 2391 Inspection and Testing and G39 certification (or equivalent).
• Minimum three years’ experience with solar PV, battery storage, EV‑charging or similar electrical installations.
• Good knowledge of BS 7671, DNO rules, structural considerations, wind‑load implications and MCS standards.

Required skills

• Site surveying and roof suitability assessment.
• Cable routing, inverter and battery placement, shading analysis.
• Wi‑Fi and communications assessment.
• Variation identification and technical validation.
• Familiarity with products such as Tesla, Sigenergy, Dyness, Fox, Atlas, Eaton, Solis.

• Salary £45,000–£55,000 depending on experience.
