Training Contract 2027/2028 – Solicitor Trainee

About the role

Porter Dodson is offering a two‑year Training Contract (2027/2028) for aspiring solicitors. The programme combines practical work, shadowing, self‑study and reflection across four six‑month seats, giving trainees exposure to a broad range of legal disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Assist solicitors with legal research, document drafting and case preparation.
• Support fee earners in managing client files, including filing, document review and correspondence.
• Attend client meetings and court hearings to take notes where appropriate.
• Prepare legal documents, contracts and bundles under supervision.
• Handle administrative tasks such as diary management, scheduling and file maintenance.
• Comply with internal policies, data protection obligations and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in internal training sessions, knowledge sharing and practice‑group activities.
• Complete weekly training records and engage in quarterly performance reviews.

Required profile

• 2:1 (or above) undergraduate degree in law or another relevant subject; law conversion course desirable if no law degree.
• Minimum BBB at A‑Level.
• Demonstrated interest in a legal career and strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and maintain high accuracy.
• Professional, proactive, adaptable and collaborative team player.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Experience with case management systems.
