Transport Coordination Officer – Patient Transport Advice Service

About the role

The Transport Coordination Officer will join the Patient Transport Advice Service (PTAS) at Devon County Council, working closely with NHS Devon and Devon Partnership NHS Trust to ensure eligible patients receive safe, non‑emergency transport to healthcare appointments.

Key responsibilities

• Assess eligibility for NHS‑funded non‑emergency patient transport.
• Communicate daily with patients, carers, healthcare professionals and council colleagues to gather information and arrange appropriate transport.
• Provide advice on alternative travel options for patients who are not eligible for NHS‑funded transport.
• Support reporting activities, attend meetings and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
• Undertake visits to healthcare sites across Devon as required.

Required profile

• Proven experience working in a busy environment with competing priorities.
• Strong organisational ability and resilience under pressure.
• Excellent communication and customer‑service skills, including a professional telephone manner.
• Ability to assess information, solve problems and make informed decisions.
