1:1 Alternative Provision Tutor – Ex‑Military (Blackpool)

About the role

This full‑time position is based in Blackpool and is designed for ex‑military personnel who want to make a direct impact on vulnerable secondary‑aged learners. You will work one‑to‑one with a student, supported by a dedicated Teaching Assistant, delivering both classroom‑based and outdoor learning experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver personalised lessons to a single student, adapting content to their needs.
• Use local outdoor settings – beaches, parks and sports facilities – to reinforce confidence and teamwork.
• Provide structure, routine and emotional regulation techniques drawn from military experience.
• Collaborate closely with the assigned Teaching Assistant to ensure student well‑being and focus.
• De‑escalate challenging behaviour using a firm‑but‑fair, trauma‑informed approach.

Required profile

• Background in the Armed Forces or similar disciplined environment.
• Passion for outdoor activities and belief in nature as a learning environment.
• Strong leadership, emotional intelligence and the ability to mentor young people.
• Willingness to work without a formal teaching qualification – full training provided.

Required skills

• Ability to design and deliver tailored educational sessions.
• Competence in using outdoor spaces for practical learning.
• Effective communication and conflict‑resolution techniques.
