Accountant – 12‑Month Interim Maternity Cover (Glasgow)

About the role

An experienced, commercially‑minded Accountant is required to provide a seamless interim maternity cover for a 12‑month period. Based in Glasgow, you will report directly to the Directors and take full ownership of the finance function, working closely with senior management to deliver accurate financial information.

Key responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts with detailed breakdowns and analysis.
• Carry out variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.
• Prepare VAT returns and manage statutory accounting requirements.
• Liaise with external accountants for audits, tax and year‑end processes.
• Oversee day‑to‑day finance operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll and bank management.
• Lead a small team of Accounts Assistants and ensure effective office administration, including holiday cover and personnel file management.
• Continuously improve financial processes and controls, maximising the use of Sage, Microsoft Excel and industry‑specific software.
• Provide commercial insight to support strategic decision‑making.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an Accountant within a fast‑paced SME environment.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Proactive, energetic approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.
