Adaptation & Resilience Pricing Analyst
msamlin · London
Job description
About the role
MS Amlin's ESG Re team is looking for a commercially astute Risk Assessment & Pricing Specialist (actuarial, analytical, modelling or reinsurance pricing background) to act as its dedicated risk assessment and pricing capability, closely aligned with the Actuarial Pricing team. The role supports the Head of Sustainability, the ESG Re team and the Reinsurance function, applying structured analysis to emerging market risks where insurance affordability and availability remain limited.
Key responsibilities
- Assess technical submissions on climate, nature, health, conflict and systemic risks, covering exposure evaluation, structure review, expected loss estimation and rate-on-line guidance.
- Analyse data to build transparent risk assessments and pricing approaches that support scalable, commercially viable solutions.
- Challenge data, assumptions, catastrophe outputs and pricing methodologies against the company's view of risk and its Sustainability Strategy.
- Advise the Head of Sustainability and Senior Underwriters on expected losses, pricing, renewals and treaty/portfolio structures.
- Turn unconventional proposals into clear, insurable structures with disciplined pricing.
- Support structuring of parametric, index-based, blended-finance-backed, sovereign risk pool and community schemes.
- Prepare technical insights for brokers, multilaterals, NGOs and humanitarians, articulating pricing rationale, risk appetite and product value.
- Work across pricing, model development, data improvement and wider Sustainability initiatives.
Required profile
- Experience in (re)insurance pricing, risk analysis, catastrophe modelling or reinsurance underwriting.
- Strong ability to interpret complex datasets, evaluate reinsurance structures and perform technical risk assessments.
- Confidence in challenging assumptions and modelled outputs in data-constrained environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, able to influence senior stakeholders.
- Curiosity about catastrophe modelling, climate risk and emerging best practices, and an entrepreneurial approach to building new markets.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of catastrophe modelling, climate risk analytics or parametric product design.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences such as NGOs, development banks and governments.
- Desirable: exposure to climate adaptation, resilience finance, blended finance or public-sector risk transfer.
- Desirable: degree, PhD or equivalent in a scientific, actuarial, data science or statistics field.
- Desirable: proficiency in SQL, Python, R or VBA.
What we offer
- Competitive base salary and performance-related discretionary bonus.
- Hybrid working, typically three days a week in the office.
