Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Stroke (Band 7 or Band 6 Trainee)

About the role

The NHS Dumfries and Galloway is expanding its stroke service and seeks an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join a multidisciplinary team at the Royal Infirmary. The role offers both a permanent Band 7 position and a 23‑month Band 6 trainee pathway leading to Band 7.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and manage patients presenting with stroke symptoms in the Emergency Department.
• Review in‑patients on the Stroke Unit and provide ongoing care.
• Deliver outpatient services, including ANP‑led clinics.
• Work collaboratively with another ANP and a team of Stroke Nurse Specialists.
• Make autonomous clinical decisions within agreed protocols and contribute to service improvement.
• Participate in the on‑call rota and weekend cover as service demands evolve.

Required profile

• Minimum postgraduate diploma in Advanced Practice.
• Independent prescribing status.
• Strong clinical reasoning, sound judgement and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to remain with NHS Dumfries and Galloway for two years after training (for the trainee route).
