Apprentice Engineer – Service Technician Apprenticeship

About the role
This three‑year apprenticeship will train you to maintain, repair, service and upgrade industrial doors and overhead gantry cranes. You will split your time between on‑the‑job training with experienced technicians and classroom learning at a local college and Konecranes’ Banbury Centre.
Key responsibilities
- Perform planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical plant equipment.
- Diagnose and repair faults in motors, switchgear, cables, pumps, valves, gearboxes and pipework.
- Upgrade and service integrated electromechanical power and control systems.
- Follow health, safety and environmental regulations on all tasks.
- Attend college courses and on‑site training sessions as scheduled.
Required profile
- Minimum age 18 years.
- At least 5 GCSEs (grade 4/C or above) including Maths, English and a Science.
- Ability to work at heights and climb ladders.
- Willingness to travel up to one hour to a designated college and live within 30 miles of the branch.
- Valid UK driver’s licence and basic IT skills.
Required skills
- Knowledge of electrical plant equipment (motors, switchgear, cables and conductors).
- Understanding of mechanical plant equipment (pumps, valves, gearboxes, pipework).
- Familiarity with electromechanical power and control systems.
- Awareness of industry health and safety standards.
What we offer
- Starting salary of £17,968.08 per year.
- Full apprenticeship qualification (Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacturing, BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance).
- Guaranteed full‑time permanent Service Technician role upon successful completion.
- Training at a local college and Konecranes’ Banbury Centre.
