Apprenticeship – Cabling Engineer

About the role

Join Mastercard's Data Centre Engineering team as an Apprentice Cabling Engineer. You will gain hands‑on experience installing, managing and de‑commissioning cabling infrastructure in a high‑performance data centre environment.

Key responsibilities

• Install new racks and cabling systems (copper Cat 6 and multimode fibre optic) to specification.
• De‑commission redundant cabling and equipment safely.
• Maintain tidy cable routing, organization and termination.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and perform repairs.
• Test cabling systems for quality and document all work accurately.
• Assist with installation and configuration of servers, switches and related hardware.
• Monitor data‑centre environmental parameters such as temperature, airflow and power.
• Collaborate with Data Centre Engineers, contractors and Network Engineers.
• Follow safety regulations, industry standards and company procedures.

Required profile

• Enthusiasm for a career in data‑centre infrastructure engineering.
• Willingness to work in confined spaces, at height and perform manual handling.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented processes.
• Good communication skills for teamwork and reporting.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of Cat 6 copper cabling.
• Understanding of multimode fibre‑optic cabling.
• Familiarity with network equipment installation (servers, switches).
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
• Experience with cable testing and documentation.
