Attendance Officer – Okehampton College

About the role
The Attendance Officer will join Okehampton College to monitor and improve student attendance. Working closely with pupils, families and school staff, you will help ensure that attendance targets are met and that any concerns are addressed promptly.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records for all students.
- Identify and investigate patterns of persistent absence or lateness.
- Contact parents or carers about unexplained absences and attendance concerns.
- Develop and implement improvement plans with students and families.
- Collaborate with school leaders, teachers, pastoral staff and external agencies to support attendance.
- Ensure compliance with school policies and relevant attendance legislation.
- Escalate serious attendance concerns in line with safeguarding and statutory procedures.
Required profile
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Patience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting students, especially those with special educational needs.
- GCSEs in Maths and English (grades A‑C).
- Willingness to undertake training and continuous professional development.
