Back End Developer – Hybrid, Newcastle

About the role

ZeroLight is seeking a Back End Developer to join its visualisation platform team in Newcastle upon Tyne. The role focuses on building robust server‑side logic and distributed systems that power 3D engines, bridging cloud‑rendering technology with the user interface.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services that underpin the visualisation platform.
• Support high‑availability, fault‑tolerant systems to ensure zero downtime for global partners.
• Troubleshoot and implement front‑end updates that interact with backend APIs using full‑stack knowledge.
• Work within a distributed ecosystem, ensuring efficient data flow from databases to end‑users.

Required profile

• Passion for server‑side logic, data integrity and system performance.
• Experience deconstructing complex issues in distributed environments.
• Ability to support delivery of significant features and scale globally.
• Willingness to pivot between backend architecture and front‑end adjustments for automotive clients.

Required skills

• Python – professional experience building server‑side applications.
• Node.js – developing and maintaining scalable APIs.
• MongoDB – NoSQL database management and optimisation.
• Linux – comfortable working and troubleshooting Linux environments.
• Kubernetes & Docker – experience with containerised applications.
• Modern JavaScript/TypeScript and front‑end frameworks.
