Behaviour and Autism Support Assistant

About the role

The Behaviour and Autism Support Assistant works closely with students who have autism and behavioural needs, providing one‑to‑one support both inside the classroom and across the school environment. You will help learners access the curriculum, develop social skills, and manage challenging behaviours while contributing to a safe, inclusive atmosphere.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 academic and behavioural support to students throughout the school day.
• De‑escalate challenging situations calmly and safely, prioritising learner wellbeing.
• Assist teachers in delivering lessons and specialised timetables.
• Record learner progress, behaviour incidents, and development in school systems.
• Support personal care, hygiene, and any medical requirements as needed.
• Participate in safeguarding, Team Teach, and other SEN‑related training.

Required profile

• Experience working with children with autism or behavioural difficulties.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and senior leadership.
• Commitment to maintaining a calm, supportive learning environment.
• Willingness to attend ongoing training and professional development.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Team Teach or similar educational management systems.
