Behavioural Support Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Behavioural Support Assistant to work with pupils who have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The role is based in a school in Dagenham and runs Monday to Friday, 8:30 am‑4:00 pm, during term time.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Assist teachers in implementing individual behaviour plans and maintaining a calm, structured learning environment.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, resilience and academic progress.
• Support the delivery of SEL (social‑emotional learning) activities and monitor pupil progress.

Required profile

• Genuine interest in supporting young people with SEMH needs.
• Patient, calm, proactive and able to work collaboratively with staff.
• Experience or training in behaviour management or manual handling is preferred.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
