Business Controls Associate – COO (SCIB)

About the role

The Business Controls Associate will work within the Business Controls Unit (BCU) of Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (SCIB). You will partner with Front Office teams to ensure risk ownership, control assurance and regulatory compliance for trading and banking activities.

Key responsibilities

• Support continuous improvement of Markets, GTB and Banking control frameworks.
• Develop and enhance business supervision processes, procedures, MI and technology.
• Assist product, risk and control owners with Risk & Control Self‑Assessments (RCSA) and maintain control libraries.
• Execute independent control testing, risk deep‑dives and promptly escalate breaches.
• Monitor trading desk activities for market, operational and conduct risks.
• Drive automation and digitalisation of processes and reporting.
• Manage BCU governance bodies, periodic reporting, dashboards and KPIs.
• Produce monthly and quarterly risk reports for UK and global forums.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an investment banking environment, preferably in a business or product‑aligned role.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a focus on data interpretation.
• Demonstrated experience managing simplification or AI‑related projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex risk information to non‑experts.
• High attention to detail and accuracy in risk analysis and reporting.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Power BI.
