Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

About the role

Harper May Ltd is seeking a hands‑on Chief Financial Officer to drive commercial discipline and strengthen the financial foundation of a well‑established, privately owned business in South East England. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will sit on the senior leadership team and influence both the numbers and strategic direction of the company.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of the company’s financial strategy and long‑term planning.
• Own budgeting, forecasting and management reporting processes.
• Strengthen financial controls, governance and statutory reporting.
• Manage cash flow, working capital and capital allocation decisions.
• Partner with the leadership team on commercial and strategic initiatives.
• Develop, mentor and lead the finance department.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Significant senior finance leadership experience, preferably as a CFO or Finance Director.
• Background in privately owned or owner‑managed businesses.
• Strong commercial acumen with a hands‑on approach.
• Proven track record of improving finance functions and controls.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior leaders.
