Chief Legal Advisor

About the role

The Chief Legal Advisor will lead a busy legal team within a well‑established London local authority. Reporting to the Assistant Director and Director of Legal and Governance, you will provide high‑level advice to senior officers and elected members while ensuring robust governance across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse legal team covering multiple specialisms.
• Provide strategic legal advice to senior client officers and elected members.
• Discharge Monitoring Officer responsibilities.
• Motivate, develop and support the legal team.
• Report directly to senior legal leadership.

Required profile

• Current practising certificate (Barrister, Solicitor or CILEx).
• Experience working in a local authority or similar public sector environment.
• Proven ability to work at pace and juggle competing priorities.
• Legal practice management experience.
• Previous involvement with governance matters.
• Willingness to attend the office 2‑3 days per week.
