Claims Handler

About the role

Howden, a global insurance group, is hiring a Claims Handler in Milton Keynes. The role handles claims efficiently and proactively, delivers an exceptional customer experience and acts as an ambassador for the Howden Claims Division. It is office-based but involves regular travel for client and insurer visits, off-site training, division and team events and other meetings. The position is permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Handle claims from start to finish, on a delegated and non-delegated basis, meeting service level agreements and standards
• Deal with phone calls and correspondence efficiently and review and challenge insurer decisions on liability where needed
• Build relationships with insurers, suppliers, clients and colleagues, and act as main contact for certain clients
• Share knowledge and coach colleagues, and keep the Claims Manager informed of all issues or complaints
• Stay up to date with new products and markets, and keep your own knowledge current through study and courses
• Ensure full compliance with standards, including GDPR, the Bribery Act 2010, anti-money laundering rules and the FCA principles

Required profile

• Minimum of 2 years' experience providing specialist advice in the insurance market
• Qualified to at least Cert CII, or able to gain it within 18 months of joining
• Good literacy and numeracy (minimum C or equivalent in English and Maths)
• Regular travel required for client and insurer visits, training and events

Required skills

• Working knowledge of the main classes of general insurance, GDPR, FCA/FOS and the CII Code of Ethics
• Working knowledge of Howden's product range, policy wordings and service standards
• Accuracy, attention to detail, quick and efficient processing, and ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
• Excellent client service, oral and written communication, and ability to gather, analyse and respond to client needs
