Clinical Nurse Specialist – Gender Identity Services

About the role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will join the Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) within the Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service. Working Monday to Friday on either a day or an evening shift, you will provide specialist nursing care to patients accessing gender identity services and support the wider sexual and reproductive health team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver assessment, treatment and review of patients in the Gender Identity Clinic.
• Manage initial and ongoing care autonomously after training.
• Contribute to the care of patients with a range of sexual and reproductive health issues.
• Participate in the leadership and management of the nursing team.
• Travel to local clinics across Lothian to provide outreach services.

Required profile

• First‑level registered nurse, mental health nurse or midwife with current NMC registration.
• Post‑registration qualification in sexual and reproductive health.
• Minimum two years post‑registration experience in sexual health, gender identity or a directly related field.
• Clear interest in gender identity services and a non‑judgemental, person‑centred approach.
• Willingness to work unsocial hours and travel independently.

Required skills

• Independent non‑medical prescribing qualification or willingness to obtain it.
• Clinical consultation and psychosocial assessment documentation.
