Construction Manager

About the role

The Construction Manager will lead the delivery of critical infrastructure projects at Devonport Royal Dockyard, supporting national security. You will oversee site operations, coordinate contractors, and ensure all work meets the highest safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day construction activities and ensure safe, efficient delivery of site works.
• Lead and coordinate contractors and site teams to deliver work packages on schedule.
• Author construction documents and chair project and site meetings.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Support inspections, verification activities and drive continuous improvement of site operations.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams delivering construction or installation works.
• Strong understanding of construction practices, CDM regulations and health & safety legislation.
• Background in regulated or safety‑critical environments, preferably defence or nuclear.
• Demonstrated ability to manage contractors, contracts and daily site operations.
• Excellent stakeholder management across integrated teams.

Required skills

• Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Manager Card (Black card).
• Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification.
• Temporary works qualification (desirable).
• Lifting qualification (desirable).
• NVQ Level 6 or 7 in Construction Management (desirable).
