Construction Manager – Substations (Power Transmission & Distribution)

About the role

Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead substation projects within its Power Transmission & Distribution business. Based in Woolavington, you will be responsible for delivering safe, on‑time and on‑budget construction of critical UK power infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Site Engineers and Project Engineers, ensuring compliance with safety and technical policies.
• Plan and coordinate material, plant, equipment and resource requirements.
• Supervise daily site activities, manage the labour force, monitor subcontractors and enforce quality control.
• Maintain effective liaison with Highways Authorities, Local Authorities and other utility providers.
• Track project progress against budgets and timelines, setting benchmarks and reporting status.
• Review design documents and ensure work meets all standards and environmental legislation.

Required profile

• Proven track record of delivering construction projects on time and within budget.
• Strong understanding of standard construction contracts and commercial project management.
• Experience implementing safe systems of work and managing high‑pressure situations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with all organisational levels.
• Ability to mentor, inspire and develop effective project teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (O365).
• Holding a valid CSCS card.
