Consultant in Infectious Diseases (Infection Medicine)

About the role

The NHS Dumfries & Galloway is seeking an innovative Consultant in Infectious Diseases to join its Medicine for the Elderly team at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary. You will help shape services across orthogeriatric, frailty, front‑door and community‑hospital outreach, while supporting the regional OPAT service.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop integrated care pathways for orthogeriatric and frailty patients.
• Lead and expand the Out‑patient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service across the region.
• Collaborate with a multi‑professional team including consultants, nurse consultants and clinical fellows.
• Participate in the acute medical on‑call rota as required.
• Drive service improvement initiatives to meet future healthcare demands.

Required profile

• Forward‑thinking clinician with a broad background in medicine, particularly geriatrics.
• Completed infection training; experience with HIV, HCV or related sub‑specialities is desirable.
• Demonstrated commitment to compassionate, patient‑centred care.
• Willingness to engage in service redesign and community outreach.

Required skills

• OPAT service knowledge.
• Infection Medicine expertise.
• Experience with HIV and HCV clinical management.
