Consultant – Upper Gastro‑Intestinal Surgery

About the role

We are seeking a Consultant in Upper Gastro‑Intestinal Surgery to join a dynamic General Surgery team at Kettering General Hospital, delivering high‑quality benign Upper GI services across North Northamptonshire.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive care for Upper GI conditions including GORD, biliary disease and complex benign pathology.
• Support diagnostics and management of oesophageal and hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) conditions.
• Contribute to endoscopy and ERCP services (desirable but not essential).
• Participate in the general surgical emergency rota (1:8).
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and regional specialist centres.
• Lead service development, innovation and pathway improvement.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practise.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (General Surgery) or within six months of CCT.
• Extensive experience in General Surgery and Upper GI Surgery.
• Ability to manage Upper GI emergencies and complex surgical patients.
• Proven experience working within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Upper GI surgery.
• Laparoscopic anti‑reflux surgery.
• Heller myotomy.
• Per‑oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM).
• UGI endoscopy and ERCP (desirable).
