Counter Sales Assistant

About the role

BSS, part of Travis Perkins plc, is recruiting a Counter Sales Assistant in Sheffield. The role sits at the heart of the Branch Sales Team in a fast-paced, relationship-driven position aimed at expanding the customer base. It is a permanent, full-time post of 40 hours per week covering opening hours, Monday to Friday, with no weekends and no bank holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Build friendly, professional rapport with regular customers by phone and email so they keep returning
• Handle customer enquiries quickly and accurately, identify new accounts and proactively upsell smart solutions to meet project needs
• Coordinate with the wider branch team and suppliers so orders are delivered on time and in full
• Provide face-to-face customer service on the busy trade counter alongside phone and email work
• Promote the branch's safety culture

Required profile

• Experience in a phone-based sales or customer service role and ability to build trust with a wide range of people
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic and highly organised, able to manage a busy inbox and ringing phone with attention to detail
• Good numerical and computer skills for processing orders accurately and using branch systems
• Team player focused on hitting goals, proactive in developing new business and supporting colleagues
• Product knowledge is a big plus, but full training is provided
