Customer Delivery Porter (CDH) - Southampton

About the role

John Lewis is recruiting a Customer Delivery Porter for its South Central Customer Delivery Hub in Southampton. You will be the face of the Partnership brand, delivering, assembling and installing products in customers' homes along planned routes. The post is temporary, paid at £13.05 (rising to £13.30 after 90 days), with 41 hours per week across 4 days on a 5-week rota, and two shift patterns available.

Key responsibilities

• Act as an ambassador for John Lewis, keeping customer service as your top priority.
• Start each shift at the delivery hub and help the warehouse team load the lorry for the day's routes.
• Manage deliveries and installations in route order using a Partner Device.
• Treat customers' homes with respect and handle unexpected situations calmly.
• Support the driver in safely installing, assembling and disconnecting free-standing appliances, furniture and TVs.
• Show customers how the new products work and stay up to date on new products and technologies.
• Follow health and safety guidance, manual handling procedures and GDPR requirements, and keep vehicles clean.
• Report accidents, incidents or near misses to management immediately.

Required profile

• Applicants must be 18 or over due to working time regulations.
• Ability to manage the physical demands of the role, including lifting and handling large items such as sofas, white goods, furniture, beds and mattresses.
• Desirable: previous customer-facing experience, and experience with home delivery, furniture assembly or installing white goods and electrical items.

Required skills

• Strong communication skills and a customer-centric approach.
• Knowledge of health and safety, manual handling and GDPR.
