Data Management Officer

About the role

Public Health Scotland is seeking a Data Management Officer who is curious about data and motivated to make a real difference to people’s lives. In this role you will maintain and develop national health datasets, helping the health and care system make informed decisions and reduce health inequalities across Scotland.

Key responsibilities

• Process and interrogate data submissions to monitor quality, completeness and timeliness of national datasets.
• Work closely with data suppliers to understand sources, investigate anomalies and resolve delays or issues.
• Collaborate with data users and wider stakeholders to communicate limitations, inform data usage and interpretation.
• Develop and contribute to national data standards and definitions to ensure consistency across Scotland and the UK.
• Provide expert advice on data management, including data mapping, validation rules, technical formats and alternative collection, processing and storage solutions.
• Deliver training and presentations to clinical and non‑clinical staff, data providers and colleagues involved in data collection.

Required profile

• Strong interest in data and its impact on public health outcomes.
• Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including data suppliers and end‑users.
• Excellent communication skills for sharing technical information and providing guidance.
