Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

About the role

The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead will work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and the Head Teacher to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people at Queensmead House School. This specialist SEND setting requires a proactive approach to safeguarding, child protection and wellbeing across both primary and secondary provision.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead in implementing safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Undertake daily delegated tasks, including liaising with statutory and non‑statutory agencies, parents, carers and staff.
• Coordinate responses to child protection concerns and ensure timely action.
• Collaborate with the wider school team and in‑house clinical staff to promote a high staff‑to‑child ratio and a safe learning environment.
• Report safeguarding matters directly to the Head Teacher and contribute to leadership meetings.

Required profile

• Experience working with children who have complex educational and behavioural needs.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and child protection processes.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including agencies and families.
• Commitment to the ethos of enhancing life opportunities for SEND pupils.
