About the role
The Deputy Director Data, Performance and Corporate Operations will lead the Department for Education’s efforts to improve the performance of the further education (FE) system. Reporting to senior leadership, the role uses data, analytics and AI to drive higher learner outcomes, reduce drop‑out rates and align provision with local economic needs.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee Regional Improvement Teams, ensuring governance, data‑driven targeting and alignment with pre‑16 and devolved leadership.
- Lead risk assessment for post‑16 FE providers and coordinate with the Office for Students on university risk.
- Centralise governance of post‑16 performance, managing the Case Management Group and the Performance and Intervention Programme Board.
- Provide place‑based intelligence and briefing for ministers, supporting ministerial visits and briefing tools.
- Design and deliver transformation of post‑16 provider oversight, incorporating AI, automation and risk‑based prioritisation.
- Drive cultural change across the civil service and partner organisations, including oversight of the Sheffield Policy Campus.
Required profile
- Extensive senior leadership experience in data‑driven performance improvement within education or public sector.
- Strong understanding of the further education landscape, including Ofsted standards and qualification achievement metrics.
- Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, including government ministries and strategic authorities.
- Experience leading large, multi‑disciplinary teams and delivering organisational change.
