Deputy Head – Safeguarding & Wellbeing

About the role

The Deputy Head (Safeguarding and Wellbeing) will join the senior leadership team at King’s College School, Wimbledon, reporting directly to the Head. This senior position is responsible for shaping the school’s safeguarding culture and wellbeing provision across all phases.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) function for the entire corporation, overseeing pre‑prep, junior and senior schools.
• Develop, implement and monitor safeguarding policies and procedures in line with UK legislation.
• Drive the school’s wellbeing strategy, ensuring a supportive environment for pupils and staff.
• Provide guidance, training and support to staff across the King’s international family of schools.
• Contribute to strategic planning, ethos development and the school’s long‑term transformation projects.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in safeguarding and wellbeing within an independent school setting.
• Proven senior leadership experience, preferably as a Deputy Head or senior pastoral leader.
• Strong understanding of UK safeguarding legislation and best practice.
• Excellent communication, influencing and collaborative skills.
• Commitment to the school’s mission of holistic education and future‑focused development.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of UK safeguarding legislation and frameworks.
• Experience of designing and delivering wellbeing programmes.
• Ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and provide high‑quality training.
