Deputy Manager – Outdoor Nursery

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Deputy Manager to support the leadership of our Forest School‑focused nursery. Working alongside the Nursery Manager, you will help create a nature‑rich environment where children learn through exploration, play and outdoor experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in day‑to‑day management of a Forest School nursery.
• Lead and inspire staff to deliver engaging outdoor learning activities.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment for all children.
• Embed the EYFS framework within a nature‑based curriculum.
• Promote children’s independence, curiosity and resilience through outdoor play.
• Support staff development, coaching and performance management.
• Build strong partnerships with parents and carers.
• Ensure safeguarding, health & safety and risk assessments are consistently upheld, especially outdoors.

Required profile

• Level 3 (or above) Early Years qualification.
• Experience in a supervisory role within an early years setting.
• Strong understanding of the EYFS framework.
• Genuine interest in outdoor learning and nature‑based education.
• Confidence working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Willingness to train in Forest School principles and practices.
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.

Required skills

• Level 3 Early Years qualification.
• Supervisory experience in early years.
• Knowledge of EYFS framework.
• Interest in outdoor and Forest School education.
