Design Engineer – Structures

About the role

Robert Bird Group is seeking a Design Engineer – Structures to join its London office. The role involves delivering detailed structural designs for a variety of projects, including commercial, mixed‑use and data centre developments, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead client liaison and support business development activities.
• Coordinate project delivery, resources and design documentation.
• Develop engineering solutions and define design philosophy.
• Produce preliminary and detailed designs for temporary and permanent works.
• Carry out design checking, technical reporting and subcontractor coordination.
• Develop erection schemes and specialist engineering methodologies.
• Support cost control, fee proposals and project variations.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical support to site teams.

Required profile

• A degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a strong interest in structural design.
• Working towards or already chartered with IStructE or ICE.
• Demonstrated experience in structural design, including at least one year as project lead in a client‑facing role.
• Flexibility and initiative to handle challenging situations.
• Familiarity with Eurocodes and relevant design guidance.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D structural design software such as Tekla, Revit and Robot.
• Knowledge of Eurocodes and other applicable design standards.
