Django Technical Lead

About the role

The client, a leading UK government organisation, is seeking an experienced Django Technical Lead to drive the design, build and productionisation of secure Django‑based applications. The role is contract‑based until September 2026 with a potential extension and operates on a hybrid model (one day per week on‑site at Canary Wharf).

Key responsibilities

• Lead architecture, development and deployment of Django applications in Azure.
• Define and embed coding standards, API guidelines, review practices and secure engineering patterns.
• Design and implement RBAC, authentication, authorisation and secure access models.
• Set up and improve CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure‑as‑code and automated quality controls.
• Establish automated testing across unit, integration, functional and regression levels.
• Produce technical documentation for design authority, security assurance and operational hand‑over.
• Collaborate with cloud, security, DevOps and business stakeholders to ensure compliance with internal standards.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership and coaching to other Django developers.

Required profile

• Proven experience developing, deploying and productionising Django applications in live environments.
• Strong hands‑on knowledge of Python, Django, API development and secure web architecture.
• Experience defining engineering standards, development processes and secure coding practices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Ability to create comprehensive technical, architecture and security documentation.
