Dynamic Positioning Officer (D.P.O.)

About the role

Stena Drilling is looking for a D.P.O. (Dynamic Positioning Officer) to work on a barge in the Grampian area. The D.P.O. acts as the DP watchkeeper and is responsible for the safe operation of the shift and the DP operation, unless relieved by the Senior D.P.O., and also watches the vessel's navigation when it is not in DP mode.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct the DP watch in line with MTS and IMCA recommendations, the company's DP philosophy and client requirements
• Ensure the DP system works correctly and report defects; take part in DP checks, trials and tests
• Provide full DP cover and monitoring of vessel movements, including position maintenance, sensors, thruster response and available power
• Maintain the shift handover book and keep a close watch on the weather, informing the Senior D.P.O. if conditions may require abandoning operations
• Monitor other vessels in the area and take action to protect personnel and structure until the Barge Master arrives
• Keep navigational charts and publications up to date, ensure navigational warnings are displayed and keep the bridge and control room ready for sea
• Prepare the pilot house for sea, liaise with department heads on conflicts between DP and vessel operations, permit-to-work coordination and general administration
• Assist with maintenance of lifesaving and firefighting equipment and respond to alarms and emergency signals

Required profile

• Ideal candidate holds a Marine Class 3 (Deck) Certificate of Competency
• Unlimited DP certificate and adequate knowledge and experience of DP operations
• Experience as a DP Operator for a suitable period
• Experience of the type of DP system used, or attendance at a manufacturer's simulation course
• Marine Class 2 or Class 1 certificate highly desirable; superior certificates preferred
