Employee Relations Advisor

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Advisor to join the People team of a well‑established NHS Trust in Sussex on a six‑month fixed‑term contract. Working within a supportive HR environment, you will provide practical advice to managers and manage a diverse caseload of employee relations matters in a fast‑paced healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload covering disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence, capability, performance management, dignity at work and flexible working cases.
• Advise and coach managers through formal and informal employee relations processes.
• Support investigations, hearings and appeals, ensuring accurate documentation and legal compliance.
• Collaborate with Trade Union representatives to resolve issues effectively.
• Provide balanced advice that meets organisational needs while promoting a positive employee experience.
• Assist the wider HR team with policy implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience handling complex employee relations cases within the NHS or broader public sector.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law and best practice in employee relations.
• Demonstrated ability to advise managers across a wide range of HR and ER matters.
• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to prioritise a busy caseload and work independently.
• Proactive, solution‑focused approach with meticulous attention to detail.
