Enforcement Officer – Town Planning (Hybrid, Glasgow)

About the role

We are supporting a busy local authority in Glasgow to recruit an Enforcement Officer for its Development Management team. The role is a temporary six‑month contract (with possible extension) working on a hybrid basis – three days in the council office and the remainder on site across the authority area.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate alleged breaches of planning control and carry out site inspections.
• Manage a caseload of enforcement cases, seeking resolution through negotiation or formal action.
• Prepare reports, notices and evidence for enforcement, appeals and legal proceedings.
• Act as the primary contact for enforcement enquiries from the public and stakeholders.
• Monitor developments that have received planning permission to ensure compliance with approved plans and conditions.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure cases are progressed and closed efficiently.

Required profile

• Residence within a commutable distance from Glasgow.
• Ability to work independently, manage a varied caseload and conduct site visits.
• Strong negotiation skills and the capacity to progress formal enforcement when necessary.
• Understanding of data protection legislation and ability to handle personal data securely.

Required skills

• Experience conducting site inspections and researching planning histories.
• Proficiency in preparing written reports and enforcement documentation.
• Knowledge of planning regulations and enforcement procedures.
