About the role
The School of Commercial, Creative and Professional Studies at Merton College is seeking an inspiring ESOL Lecturer to deliver daytime and evening classes for adult learners (16‑18 and 19+). The role starts on 1 September 2026 and is funded for the 2026/27 academic year onward.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high‑quality ESOL lessons across all levels, using a range of teaching, learning and assessment strategies.
- Provide a positive, inclusive learning environment that respects diverse learner needs and promotes achievement of qualifications.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of curriculum changes and adapt teaching approaches accordingly.
- Ensure compliance with Awarding Organisation standards and participate in the Quality Assurance cycle.
- Deliver remote learning sessions and utilise digital tools to enhance instruction.
- Commit to at least one evening per week of teaching.
Required profile
- Degree or relevant professional qualification in a suitable subject.
- Recognised teaching qualification with proven ESOL teaching experience across all levels.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and mandatory training.
- Understanding of Quality Assurance processes and Awarding Organisation requirements.
Required skills
- Strong computer literacy and practical digital skills.
- Experience delivering remote or online learning.
