Estates Officer – Energy

About the role

The Estates Officer (Energy) will be based at Borders General Hospital in Melrose and will work flexibly across the Scottish Borders region, supporting acute and primary health‑care facilities. You will act as the Board’s principal advisor on energy efficiency, carbon reduction and sustainability, shaping long‑term energy strategies and delivering Net Zero objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead utilities management and develop the Board’s long‑term energy strategy, including decarbonisation and Net Zero plans.
• Provide expert advice on energy efficiency and carbon reduction across projects and day‑to‑day operations.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and best practice.
• Manage energy‑related budgets and monitor financial performance.
• Liaise with internal teams, NHS Assure, the Scottish Government and other external bodies.
• Serve as the main point of contact for all energy matters within the Board.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent experience in energy or environmental management.
• Strong interpersonal and organisational skills with the ability to work autonomously.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across NHS Borders sites.
• Proven ability to prioritise competing demands and engage with operational and project teams.
