Estimator - Trainee

About the role

This trainee position blends sales, design and estimating within a technical construction environment. You will receive structured training and develop the skills needed to become a fully qualified estimator/designer.

Key responsibilities

• Support early design engagement with architects and contractors, providing technical input and preparing drawings (CAD training provided).
• Assist the estimating team in preparing tenders, measuring drawings and compiling labour, material and subcontractor pricing.
• Engage with prospective and existing clients via phone, email and site visits, building relationships and supporting business development.
• Participate in supplier negotiations, pricing agreements and variation pricing for ongoing projects.
• Attend regular meetings on estimating, sales and project hand‑overs, ensuring clear communication across teams.

Required profile

• Strong motivation to learn and develop a long‑term career in construction estimating.
• Excellent organisational abilities with the capacity to meet deadlines.
• Clear communication and interpersonal skills, confident when dealing with clients and suppliers.
• Team‑oriented mindset with a proactive and adaptable approach.
• Interest or basic knowledge of the construction industry is desirable.
