Financial Controller – 12‑month Fixed‑Term

About the role

This 12‑month fixed‑term position offers a qualified accountant the chance to lead the finance function of a well‑established UK manufacturing and distribution business. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will manage a small team and ensure accurate, timely financial information supports business performance and strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end, half‑year and year‑end reporting cycles.
• Prepare statutory accounts under IFRS and UK GAAP.
• Coordinate external audit activities and manage audit risks.
• Produce management accounts, forecasts, budgets and related analysis.
• Drive continuous improvement of reporting, controls, systems and finance processes.
• Enhance internal controls and support upcoming UK governance reforms.
• Oversee cash‑flow forecasting, treasury management and working‑capital initiatives.
• Act as primary contact for tax compliance and external advisers.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to challenge performance and inform strategic decisions.
• Lead, coach and develop a finance team of qualified and part‑qualified professionals.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong technical accounting and financial reporting experience in a sizeable business.
• Proven finance team leadership experience.
• Extensive knowledge of statutory reporting and audit management.
• Experience maintaining and improving financial controls.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to influence and challenge stakeholders at all levels.
• Proactive approach to process and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required skills

• ERP implementation experience (advantageous).
