Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Financial Controller to join a well‑established manufacturing business in Blackburn. The company, with a £10 million turnover and around 60 staff, is entering a critical phase of financial improvement and needs a professional to lead the implementation of Sage 50 and strengthen financial controls.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and configuration of Sage 50, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Review existing finance processes and introduce appropriate controls and measures.
• Manage short‑ and medium‑term cash‑flow forecasting and working‑capital monitoring.
• Prepare monthly management accounts for review and sign‑off by the Fractional Finance Director.
• Produce supporting analysis, reconciliations and commentary.
• Oversee year‑end accounting, VAT registration and returns.
• Liaise with external accountants, professional advisers and internal ledger clerks.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and management reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Finance Manager in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands‑on, practical approach with ability to take ownership of system implementation and day‑to‑day finance.
• Immediate availability or ability to start on short notice.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to produce reliable financial information for senior decision‑making.
