Forward Deployed Finance Engineer - Private Credit
Harvey · London
Job description
About the role
Harvey's Finance Engineering team is the investment-side counterpart to its Legal Engineering team: former investment professionals who bring real deal experience to Harvey's prospects and customers. This is the first Finance Engineer position dedicated to private credit, based in London. You will build the credit playbook (demo library, workflow templates, use cases) while running live pilots, and lead the credit practice as the team grows. The role involves travel of around 2-3 times per month, usually for 1-3 days.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with Account Executives to engage with direct lenders, opportunistic and specialty finance managers, BDC managers and insurer credit arms throughout the pre-sales process and beyond.
- Lead pilots on live opportunities and guide lenders through what is possible with AI.
- Sit with credit teams to build screening, underwriting and credit committee workflows in Harvey's own templates and formats.
- Cover the full deal lifecycle: lender presentation and CIM review, QoE read-throughs and data pack analysis, cash flow and leverage modeling, sizing and structuring, covenant and credit agreement review, credit memo drafting and comps.
- Follow deals post-close: compliance certificate review, covenant tracking, amendment and waiver analysis, and quarterly portfolio reporting.
- Bring credit-team feedback back into the product and help shape the product roadmap.
Required profile
- 6+ years on an investment or underwriting team at a direct lender, private credit fund, BDC manager or insurer private credit arm, with ownership of live deal work such as screening, underwriting, diligence, modeling, structuring and drafting credit committee materials.
- Asset-based and specialty finance backgrounds are welcome; leveraged finance, restructuring advisory or rating-agency experience is welcome but principal-side deal execution is required.
- Ability to build credibility with analysts and associates through to partners and credit committee members.
- Customer-facing or commercial experience (LP or investor relations, capital formation, banking coverage, business development) and/or hands-on experience using AI tools in an investment setting are pluses.
Required skills
- Strong command of credit documents and data: lender presentation and CIM, QoE and data pack, model, credit agreement and intercreditor, compliance certificates.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling, and comfort with prompting and agentic AI workflows.
- Python, SQL or experience building internal tools is a plus.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, including leading a live demo or workshop.
