General Manager - Transport

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated General Manager – Transport to lead and develop our transport operation. This senior leadership position is responsible for safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of transport services while driving operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day transport operations, ensuring service excellence and efficiency.
• Manage and develop transport managers, planners, supervisors, drivers and support teams.
• Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, health & safety requirements and operator licence obligations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to boost productivity, service levels and cost efficiency.
• Oversee transport budgets, KPIs and performance reporting.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities for operational growth and process improvement.
• Promote a positive culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork and customer service.
• Lead investigations, incident management and corrective action plans when required.
• Support business strategy and contribute to wider organisational objectives.

Required profile

• Significant senior management experience within a transport or logistics environment.
• Strong knowledge of transport legislation and compliance requirements.
• CPC qualification (National or International) is highly desirable.
• Proven experience managing large teams and multi‑site operations.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong financial and commercial acumen.
• Ability to analyse operational data and implement improvements.
• Experience managing KPIs, budgets and performance.
• Full UK driving licence.
