Head of Building Control

About the role

The Head of Building Control will lead Liverpool's building control service, ensuring safe, compliant and high‑quality development across the city during a period of major investment and regeneration.

Key responsibilities

• Lead on‑site supervision of major construction schemes throughout Liverpool.
• Manage and develop a multidisciplinary team of Registered Building Inspectors, trainees and structural engineers.
• Shape policy, oversee service delivery and represent the council at local, regional and international events.
• Implement and enforce the Safety at Sports Grounds Act for the city’s three major football stadiums.
• Increase market share for building control services and prepare competitive fee proposals.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in building control, construction supervision or related civil engineering fields.
• Proven leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Strong understanding of UK building regulations and safety legislation.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and represent the council publicly.
