HR Consultant (Job Evaluation)

About the role

The client, a local government organisation in Bristol, is seeking an HR Consultant to lead job evaluation activities and provide specialist HR advice across a range of complex employee‑relations matters. This permanent position is primarily remote with occasional visits to the office and a few in‑person team meetings each year.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support job evaluation processes, ensuring fair and consistent role assessments.
• Advise managers on role design, grading outcomes and the application of job evaluation frameworks.
• Maintain and develop documentation for job evaluation and related HR policies.
• Analyse role and workforce data to inform pay, grading and organisational decisions.
• Provide expert guidance on challenging employee‑relations issues, including disciplinary, grievance, performance management and TUPE transfers.
• Coach managers through formal HR processes, ensuring compliance with internal policies and legislation.
• Manage a diverse caseload covering absence management, internal restructures, ACAS early conciliation, Employment Tribunal cases and conflict resolution.

Required profile

• Significant experience within local authority HR, including policy development and casework.
• Strong knowledge of employment law and best HR practice.
• Ability to analyse information and present evidence‑based insights.
• Professional handling of sensitive discussions and a collaborative working style.
• Chartered Member of CIPD or demonstrable experience with a commitment to achieve chartered status.
• Proven track record of independently advising on complex employee‑relations matters.
