HVAC / Refrigeration Mechanic – Foreman (US Navy Program)

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic to lead a crew supporting a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves overseeing installation, maintenance, and repair of air‑conditioning and refrigeration equipment while ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HVAC crews in installing, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems.
• Coordinate work schedules, staffing, and distribution of tasks.
• Track progress, analyze trends, and recommend improvements.
• Implement preventive‑maintenance programs for all HVAC equipment.
• Train personnel on HVAC maintenance procedures.
• Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis components using hand tools and welding equipment.
• Connect motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls, and ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.
• Install, repair, and service up to 20‑ton air‑conditioning units.
• Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of relevant HVAC experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Trade certification in heating and air‑conditioning (or proof of competency).
• EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (type 1, 2, and/or 3) as required.
• Ability to work in remote, potentially uncomfortable conditions and travel domestically and internationally.

Required skills

• Knowledge of refrigeration, heating, and air‑handling principles.
• Proficiency with hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, safety rules, and maintenance manuals.
• Welding and metal‑fabrication skills for ductwork and chassis parts.
• Experience connecting motors, compressors, and control panels.
• EPA Section 608 certification.
• Valid heating and air‑conditioning trade certification.
