Import/Export Clerk – Customs & Trade Compliance

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Import/Export Clerk to join our freight forwarding team in Slough. The role involves handling customs declarations, ensuring compliance with UK trade regulations, and supporting smooth international shipments.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and submit import and export customs declarations using the CDS system.
- Manage customs documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin and preference certificates.
- Liaise with HMRC, customers, shipping partners and internal teams to resolve customs queries and delays.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of UK customs legislation, post‑Brexit trade rules and CDS transitions.
- Support audits, record‑keeping and compliance reporting.
- Advise on tariff classification, customs valuation, INCOTERMS and duty relief schemes.
Required profile
- Minimum five years’ experience in customs clearance or international trade compliance.
- Strong understanding of UK customs rules, HMRC requirements and trade systems.
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving and ability to work accurately under pressure.
Required skills
- Proficiency with the CDS customs declaration system.
- Experience using Sequoia trade software.
