Income Officer – Rent Collection (Temporary, Hybrid)

About the role

The Income Officer will join the Rent Income Team of a local government organisation in Wembley, London. Working on a temporary three‑month contract (with possible extension) and a hybrid schedule, you will support the collection of residential and non‑residential rent, ensuring accurate, confidential and empathetic service for council tenants.

Key responsibilities

• Answer tenant enquiries by providing rent account balances, arranging repayments and handling sensitive conversations.
• Maintain a robust duty rota, redirect calls and route correspondence to the appropriate officers.
• Monitor and reduce arrears, recommend write‑offs for non‑recoverable debts and prepare court application paperwork.
• Set up direct debits, process telephone payments, issue rent cards and statements.
• Verify rent and service charges on the Universal Credit portal and issue standard notification letters.
• Manage parking and storage accounts, including enforcement and recovery actions.
• Log all communications into the Rent Income CRM for further action.

Required profile

• Familiarity with rent collection processes and related legislative requirements.
• Ability to communicate clearly with tenants, handling difficult or confidential matters tactfully.
• Experience using online portals such as Universal Credit and claims‑online systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a CRM system for rent income management.
• Use of the Universal Credit portal for rent verification.
• Knowledge of claims‑online court application tools.
