Infrastructure Engineer – Contract

About the role

SiXworks is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer on a contract basis to design, build and deliver secure digital solutions for defence and national security missions. The role is based in Somerset and involves working in highly secure environments where reliability, security and speed are critical.

Key responsibilities

• Configure and harden Cisco Nexus leaf/spine architectures for high‑throughput, low‑latency traffic.
• Initialize and present NetApp storage arrays with strict data‑at‑rest encryption.
• Build and harden a Hyper‑V cluster hosting core services such as AD, DNS and PKI.
• Assist with the enablement and integration of a VMware Cloud Foundation private cloud.
• Initialize and manage HSM/KMS appliances, leading key ceremonies for high‑assurance environments.
• Perform professional rack‑and‑stack and secure cabling in accordance with high‑physical‑security standards (e.g., SCIDA).

Required profile

• Ownership mindset, critical thinking and collaborative attitude.
• Hands‑on expertise with Cisco Nexus (or equivalent) and NetApp ONTAP (or equivalent).
• Experience deploying Hyper‑V in high‑availability, high‑security configurations.
• Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation (e.g., VCF 5+).
• Familiarity with hardware‑based cryptographic systems (HSM/KMS).
• Experience with Windows Server 2022/2025.
