QA Test Infrastructure Engineer – Contract

About the role

Sixworks is seeking a QA Test Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and validate secure digital solutions for defence and national security missions. The role is fully onsite in Somerset and focuses on ensuring product quality as prototypes transition to production.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse infrastructure requirements, define test conditions, maintain traceability and log risks.
• Create test strategies and plans covering scope, environments, tooling, automation, and entry/exit criteria.
• Provision and validate test environments in partnership with DevSecOps, ensuring OS, network, platform services, monitoring, and pipelines meet readiness standards.
• Design and execute functional, integration, regression, resilience, non‑functional and security tests for physical infrastructure and IaC.
• Apply Secure‑by‑Design principles, support security testing and contribute to accreditation, assurance and compliance documentation.

Required skills

• TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs.
• Linux/Unix command‑line diagnostics and configuration.
• Physical infrastructure setup (routers, switches, cabling).
• Virtualisation platforms: VMware, VirtualBox.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP.
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (HCL), Ansible, Kubernetes.
• CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions.
