Interim Head of Finance – Social Housing

About the role

This interim position supports an established social housing provider in East London. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will take full ownership of the finance function and help strengthen reporting, budgeting and financial controls during a critical growth phase.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of management accounts, statutory reports and board papers.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management and banking operations.
• Ensure accurate and timely housing returns and regulatory reporting.
• Develop and embed robust financial controls and processes.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to provide insight‑driven business advice.
• Mentor and develop the finance team, driving continuous improvement of systems.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
• Extensive experience leading a finance function within the social housing sector.
• Proven track record in financial control, reporting and forecasting.
• Ability to work autonomously and take full ownership of the finance agenda.
• Strong stakeholder management and confidence in challenging senior leaders.

What we offer

• Annual salary between £85,000 and £95,000 or a day rate of £500‑£600, depending on experience.
